Overview

Module aims and purpose

As per the national curriculum for SWP training (2022);“This module will provide an appropriate introduction to working with CYP with Autism and Learning Disability within the context of low intensity practice. Senior Wellbeing Practitioners will need to extend low intensity support where a child or young person has autism, ADHD or a learning disability. They will develop an understanding of the core features of Autism, Learning Disabilities and associated conditions. They will also need knowledge of relevant legislation, medical and social models of disability and practice as well as the types of reasonable adjustments required in low intensity practice to meet the needs of this group. They will learn to deliver effective low intensity interventions with this client group.”

Module learning outcomes

By the end of the module, it is expected that students will be able to:

  1. Develop knowledge and skills in recognising and supporting CYP with Nuerodivergence (ND) and/or Learning Disabilities (LDs) and their parents and carers
